22-Apr-2013The following statement I ask my barrister Yasin Patel to make on my behalf.I, Mervyn Westfield, in February 2012, pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court and was soon after, sentenced to four months imprisonment. It is in relation to the facts of those proceedings that I have been forced to attend here today.The Hearing taking place today is in relation to an appeal brought by Danesh Kaneria against the English Cricket Board to overturn the ban imposed by them.My presence here today is the third time that my help and assistance has been sought in order to assist the English Cricket Board. I have made it abundantly clear to the ECB that I have no desire to participate in this hearing or to provide any further evidence to that which I had previously done in June 2012.The ECB have this time decided to take the hostile route in seeking the help of a High Court Judge who has signed a court summons in order to secure my attendance. As I understand, by not attending today, the ECB would return to the High Court and a warrant for my arrest would be requested. I am not sure what the ECB are hoping to gain by these actions.I have heard that Essex County Cricket Club, together with the English Cricket Board and the Professional Cricketers Association were fully aware of the situation I was falling into but stood back until my involvement reached the point of my guilty conviction. No-one wished to protect me at any stage. Where was their duty of care to me as a member of their staff?I am here today not because of the summons, nor because of any other party. My family have stood by me throughout the torture I have been made to live with this. No one else has given me any support despite all the promises a year ago. I am here to bring to an end the pain and suffering that I am forced to continuously suffer and in the hope that after today my family and I will never be subjected to the humiliation and hurt we have gone through in the last three years.

Shaun Marsh and Adam Voges both struck career-best one-day scores to set up a comprehensive 110-run victory for Western Australia over Queensland at the Gabba. The Warriors collected a bonus point after bowling the Bulls out for 198 in the 44th over, the big chase of 309 never really having got on track after Nathan Coulter-Nile made two early breakthroughs to have Queensland at 2 for 13.The hefty chase was required due to the 229-run third-wicket partnership between Marsh and Voges, which was all the more impressive given that they came together at 2 for 16 in the ninth over. It was Western Australia’s second-highest one-day partnership of all time, falling short of the record 257 set by Murray Goodwin and Michael Hussey in 2001.Marsh was initially slow as he tried to handle the moving ball and his first 40 deliveries brought him only 11 runs. However, he gradually began to find his rhythm and brought up his half-century from his 79th ball and his hundred from his 123rd delivery. A flurry of late runs, including three consecutive sixes off Alastair McDermott, took Marsh past his previous one-day best of 132 and he finished unbeaten on 155 from 147 balls.Voges was quicker than Marsh initially and maintained a near run-a-ball rate throughout his innings, scoring his fourth List A hundred from his 107th delivery. He passed his previous highest score of 104 not out and was eventually caught for 112 off the bowling of Matthew Gale, who picked up three wickets.After Queensland lost both Chris Hartley and Joe Burns for ducks, there was a slight recovery from Greg Moller, who in his first state game for more than three years made 39, and Peter Forrest (40). Nathan Reardon also scored a brisk 58 but the regular loss of wickets – Coulter-Nile, Jason Behrendorff and the spinner Ashton Agar collected three each – meant the Bulls were never really in the contest.

Michael Clarke has not given up hope of Shane Watson returning to India for the fourth Test in Delhi, despite the vice-captain’s indications that he is considering his cricket future. Watson arrived in Sydney on Tuesday night for the birth of his first child, although his departure from Chandigarh also coincided with him being one of four players stood down from the Australia team for this week’s third Test due to their failure to complete a task set by the coach Mickey Arthur.When he left India, Watson said he would use his time at home to weigh up his cricket future, which given his new family commitments was taken as a suggestion that long Test tours might no longer be on his radar. However, Clarke and Watson spoke on the phone after Watson landed in Sydney and Clarke said the best-case scenario for Australia was that Watson could still return to India in time for the final Test in Delhi, which starts on Friday next week.”I think Watto has made it clear to everybody that that’s something he’s thinking about while he’s home,” Clarke said of Watson’s cricket future. “From my point of view he’s vice-captain of this team and he’s a big part of this team, there’s no doubt about that. From the conversation Watto and I have had, 100% he has gone home for the birth of his first child, which is very exciting for him. I know he’s really excited about that.”Hopefully all goes to plan there, Lee has the baby in the next few days and Watto is back here playing the fourth Test as our vice-captain. That’s the best-case scenario from my point of view and from the team’s point of view. The rest is really up to Shane.”The Watson situation was complicated by a press conference in which Cricket Australia’s general manager of team performance, Pat Howard, said that Watson was a team player “sometimes” and alluded to issues between Watson and Clarke. Watson responded by saying that Howard did not know him well and that his relationship with Clarke had its ups and downs but that things were going well between them at the moment.Clarke was careful not to be drawn too far into the debate on the eve of the Mohali Test, but he said he was sure Watson and Howard would be in communication while Watson was at home. Clarke was doing his best to focus firmly on the third Test against India, which Australia could enter with as few as 12 available players due to Watson, James Pattinson, Mitchell Johnson and Usman Khawaja being suspended, and Matthew Wade battling an ankle injury.”I’m not going to get into that,” Clarke said. “I don’t think it’s fair to Watto and I don’t think it’s fair to Pat that I get involved in that. Watto has been around for a long time. Pat has been around sport for a very long time. I know those two will be in communication. For me the focus is this team and trying to have success in these two Test matches.”I think the most important thing is that this group looks forward. The decision has been made. The players have accepted and respect the decision that has been made, and now we’re trying to do what the most important thing is and have success in this Test match. I think it would be very stupid of me to look backwards. I don’t think right now, a day out before the Test, I can afford to do that.”Watto made it clear yesterday that me and him have known each other for such a long period of time. The players respect the position I’m in as captain and that this decision isn’t personal. We made the decision irrelevant to the four players’ names. It was because we thought it was best for the team that we made that decision.”

The fast bowler Jackson Bird will not rejoin Australia’s squad in India after scans in Melbourne confirmed he has a bone stress injury in his back. Bird is likely to be out of action for up to two months, which is a worrying development for Australia in an Ashes year, given how well Bird’s accurate seam-bowling style could translate to English conditions.Bird took 0 for 10 from 10 overs in the warm-up match against the Indian Board President’s XI two weeks ago but was not picked for the first Test in Chennai. He flew home after the Test to have his back injury assessed and Australia’s team doctor Peter Brukner said the results had shown a problem with his lower back.”Initial tests performed in Melbourne have confirmed that Jackson Bird has a bone stress injury of the low back,” Brukner said. “He will undergo further tests tomorrow [Thursday]. He will not be re-joining the team in India.”The loss of Bird leaves Australia with a 16-man squad ahead of the second Test, which starts in Hyderabad on Saturday. At this stage, the selectors have not decided on whether to send a replacement player to join the group, leaving Mitchell Johnson as the only extra fast bowler in the group besides those who played in the first Test.

اتحاد الكرة أعلن مواعيد مباريات دور الـ32 من بطولة كأس مصر، وقرر تأجيل مباراة الأهلي ومنتخب السويس بسبب مشاركة الكتيبة الحمراء في بطولة دوري أبطال إفريقيا.

وجاء قرار اتحاد الكرة بعدم تحديد موعد لمباراة الأهلي ومنتخب السويس، تحسبًا لوصول المارد الأحمر إلى نهائي بطولة دوري أبطال إفريقيا.

ويواجه الأهلي نظيره الترجي التونسي أحد يومي 12 و13 مايو الجاري، في ذهاب دور نصف النهائي من البطولة القارية، وتقام مباراة العودة أحد يومي 19 و20 من الشهر ذاته.

كشفت تقارير صحفية إسبانية، أن خورخي مينديز وكيل الدولي البرتغالي جواو كانسيلو لاعب فريق بايرن ميونخ المعار من مانشستر سيتي، يمهد الطريق لانضمامه إلى برشلونة في الصيف.

اللاعب البرتغالي انضم إلى بايرن ميونخ في ميركاتو يناير الماضي قادمًا من مانشستر سيتي على سبيل الإعارة حتى نهاية الموسم الجاري.

ولا ينوي بايرن ميونخ تمديد إعارة كانسيلو، أو تفعيل بند الشراء، كما أن مشاكله مع بيب جوارديولا والتي كانت سببًا في رحيله إلى النادي الألماني، تمنعه من الاستمرار في مانشستر سيتي.
